Make Your Health a Priority During National Women’s Health Week


Take the stairs instead of the elevator for an extra boost of activity!

National Women’s Health Week kicks off this Mother’s Day, which is a perfect reminder for women to make their health a top priority and think about ways to live healthier lifestyles. Whether you’ve pledged to eat more healthy, nutritious foods, be more active or get a good night’s sleep, just making these small lifestyle changes can significantly impact your overall health and help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

I’ve decided to focus on being more active and National Women’s Health Week gives me the perfect excuse to start! Some small changes I plan to make include:

  • Doing at least one of my errands on foot instead of driving. And when I do drive somewhere, leaving extra time so I can park a couple blocks away to incorporate more walking into my day.
  • Setting an alarm on my computer to go off every hour as a reminder to take a 5-minute walking break.
  • I already take the stairs instead of the elevator but this week, I’m going to make sure I do it every time!

Some other ideas for improving your health include visiting a healthcare professional to get regular checkups and preventive screenings, paying more attention to your mental health like managing stress, and avoiding unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet.

By devoting this week to making small positive changes, I’m hoping it will be easier to turn at least some of these into permanent habits.
