Do I need to order certain foods or supplements?

No. Zestar’s meal recommendations are based on fresh foods that are available at your regular grocery stores.

I’ve read that it’s the total calories that truly matter for weight loss, not whether they’re from fat, protein or carbs. Does nutrition really matter?

What you’ve read was probably referring to results from studies that fed people strict diets in highly-controlled research settings. In the real world, we don’t have someone preparing and portioning every bite for us. We eat in response to cravings, hunger pangs, satisfaction and lifestyle. When you cut calories by eating foods that don’t leave you full or satisfied, your dieting efforts will quickly fall off course as your body’s metabolism and hunger response kick in. Zestar’s meals are designed with hunger, satisfaction and varying lifestyles in mind, allowing you to cut calories by eating the right foods that will keep you feeling full and satisfied longer.

How will I know if I’m on track to reach my weight loss goals?

Zestar recommends meals designed to help you cut back on calories without the hunger or hassle of counting calories, making it easier to stay on course. The more frequently you choose to eat recommended meals, the closer you will be to reaching your weight loss goals.

You can also use the tracker tool to check out how you’re doing. The red bars mean you didn’t eat a Zestar recommended meal. Use this to evaluate how you’re doing. Are you noticing that the red bars are consistently showing up for lunch? Perhaps it’s because you’ve been so busy at work that you’ve been skipping lunch or overeating at lunch, in which case you might want to add a mid-morning snack. While we all can have off days, the tracking tool will let you see patterns of when you’ve veered off course so you can do some troubleshooting.

Read our FAQs and weekly blog posts for suggestions on how to self-evaluate and make adjustments to meet your needs. You can also email us with questions or to share how Zestar has helped you so we can continue to help others.

Is Zestar really all that different from other diet/weight loss apps and calorie trackers available?

Yes! Apps and websites that let you look up foods and track your calories are handy if all you want are the food facts. Zestar is different because it uses these facts to make the complete meal and snack recommendations that will best help you meet your weight loss goals. With other apps, it’s up to you to do the legwork of searching for foods, figuring out portions, calculating calories or points, and trying to personalize it to fit your needs. With Zestar, you get the personalized food recommendations you need without having to do the complex calculations.

Zestar Diet Pilot is there to help you navigate your nutrition and diet with complete, immediate recommendations BEFORE you eat. No longer do you have to spend precious time figuring out your next meal or snack and searching for the calorie breakdown. Or, even worse, finding out after the fact that you overindulged in what you already ate. Other than choosing which of Zestar’s recommendations you want to eat, you don’t need to do anything to make sure you’re on track. And, because we’re all human, if you do eat something other than your recommended meal, Zestar will account for that and make real-time adjustments to your next meal to keep you on track.

My blood pressure is high, so my doctor suggests I lower my salt intake. Can Zestar help?

Absolutely! One of the best things you can do to lower your blood pressure if you are overweight is to lose weight. By following the Zestar diet, you’ll be cutting calories and making healthier food choices that will help you lose weight for the long run, and lower your blood pressure.

While Zestar is not specifically a low-sodium diet, many of the meal recommendations are low sodium. Foods such as fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy are the staples recommended by Zestar, which are typically lower sodium and also provide essential nutrients like potassium and calcium to promote healthy blood pressure. Zestar also coaches you to reduce your consumption of bread products, which are a major source of sodium in the US diet. In fact, a recent study found that overweight adults who switched to a high protein diet from lean sources (which Zestar will help you do) actually lowered their blood pressure!

I have a lot of weight to lose. Can Zestar help me reach my goal and keep it off?

Yes. Whether you have a lot or a little weight to take off, Zestar Diet Pilot is a great navigator. Even better, Zestar is a sustainable diet that teaches you how to eat to lose weight and keep it off for the long run, without sacrificing lifestyle or feeling deprived or hungry.

Can my spouse/significant other and I both use Zestar?

Of course! You’ll both need to register and follow the program individually since Zestar’s meal recommendations are designed to fit your unique profile. But together, you can easily coordinate what you will eat to make meal prep easier.

I have kids and a family. Will I still be able to enjoy meals with my family?

Yes, and you won’t have to cook separate meals for yourself. Just use your meal recommendations to direct your dinner plans and go from there. For example, if your dinner recommendation includes a salad, grilled chicken and vegetables (which is great as a family meal), you may want to add a side dish for the rest of the family and cook some extra veggies for yourself. It’s a healthy meal for everyone!

You’ll also find quick fix and one-dish recipes that make 4 or more servings. Other recipes can easily be converted to make multiple servings. One tip is to always have extra veggies on hand (fresh or frozen are best). This way, even if you make your family’s favorite recipe and you want to have some, you can just add extra veggies to your own serving to keep the calories down without sacrificing portion size.

Most of my meals are eaten on the road (car, airport, hotel restaurant). Without a refrigerator or kitchen, can I still use Zestar?

Not a problem. Zestar will be a great asset to help you stay on track, even when you’re traveling. With a database of almost 200 restaurants plus “typical” menus from the type of food the restaurant offers, you’ll be able to walk into nearly any restaurant and get a meal that’s just right for you.

How much time will I need to spend cooking?

While meals prepared from scratch at home are often healthier and less costly, we also recognize that not everyone has the desire or time to spend cooking which is why Zestar will leave the decision to cook completely up to you. Your recommended meals can be grab-n-go or made from scratch and still be Zestar friendly. For example, a recommended meal of boneless, skinless chicken breast can be prepared from scratch, frozen fillets, or even pre-packaged deli slices. Just make sure to follow the portion sizes Zestar provides. Similarly, veggies can be prepared in your own kitchen, fresh or frozen, or prepackaged ready-to-serve. Try to limit the sauces and dressings to manage calories.

I’m on a tight budget. Will I be able to afford the foods Zestar recommends?

There aren’t any special foods that you must purchase when using Zestar and all are available at your local discount superstores or grocery stores. The same price-saving strategies you’re using now like coupons, store discounts and cooking from scratch can be used with Zestar. However, there are some items that might be more expensive than what you currently buy, such as Greek yogurt, which is usually higher in price than regular yogurt. But, with fewer calories Greek yogurt is more nutritious and fills you up more than regular yogurt. Without the hunger, you’ll end up saving money by not grabbing snacks between meals. Spend a little more on some items and you’ll ultimately spend less on unnecessary foods that don’t offer as much nutritional value.
